A PIL Asked How the NMC Actually Verifies a Degree. The Court Asked Why He Keeps Filing PILs.
On 16 September the Supreme Court dismissed an Article 32 petition that asked the National Medical Commission one narrow question: what verification does it actually run before a person is recognised as a doctor? Advocate Narendra Kumar Goswami had dropped his wider prayers — a regulatory audit, an expert committee — and pressed only for disclosure of the mechanism that already exists.
He never got to argue it. The bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe turned to the petition instead, noting that he files roughly one writ a week off whatever has appeared in the news. "You have made it a factory," the bench said, asking whether this was about patients or about publicity. Dismissed.
The case on paper went undiscussed. Sections 27 and 31 of the NMC Act already require an electronic National Medical Register, published and synchronised with the State Medical Registers; Sections 33 and 34 make registration and licence the legal gateway to lawful practice. The petition's point was that the architecture is legislated but unbuilt — and it cited the Rajasthan Medical Council's own former Registrar, arrested in March 2026 over fraudulent FMGE certificates and registrations. Representations to the Health Ministry and the NMC in February and May 2026 went unanswered, it said.
WHY IT MATTERS
Verification is your liability, not the regulator's. No court-supervised audit of the register is coming. When you clear a locum, an RMO or a new junior, you check the NMR and the state council yourself.
Go and look at your own entry. Your licence under Sections 33–34 is the legal basis of every clinical act you perform. A stale or unsynchronised NMR record becomes your problem at the worst possible moment.
The "one in four doctors is fake" figure has no audit behind it. It came from material the petitioner relied on, not the NMC. Expect it quoted at you anyway — and the burden of disproving it to sit with individual doctors.

One Nurse’s Vitals Chart Just Defeated an ₹81-Lakh Negligence Claim
A Delhi bench dismissed a brain-death allegation on 14 September 2026, almost seven years after the admission. The defence was not an expert opinion. It was four timestamps, three weaning trials and a form the family had signed themselves.
He Paid ₹70 For An X-Ray. That Did Not Make Him A Consumer.
Three shoulder operations. More than ₹2 crore claimed. Eleven years of litigation. The national consumer commission closed the complaint without deciding whether anything went wrong — because a hospital that charges nobody sits outside the 1986 Act, and a test receipt is not a surgery bill.

The strike stays on.
FORDA India put out the RDA’s letter on 15 September, saying security at the hospital remains inadequate and that a car came in through open gates and rammed into the emergency corridor ramp. It tagged @gupta_rekha and @drpankajbjp for immediate action.
